About the Author

Tracy L. Tuten, Ph.D., is Professor of Marketing at East Carolina University where she teaches social media marketing and advertising. Her first book, Advertising 2.0: Social Media Marketing in a Web 2.0 World, was followed by others on using social media and digital marketing for the enterprise, and the book, Advertisers at Work, which features interviews with luminaries in the field. Dr. Tuten’s publications have appeared in such journals as Journal of Marketing Communications, Psychology & Marketing, and Journal of Business Research. Prior to her appointment at ECU, she taught at Longwood University and at Virginia Commonwealth University, where her research efforts were recognized with VCU’s Excellence in Scholarship award. A two-time Fulbright Scholar, she speaks all over the world on marketing topics. She’s been recognized with teaching awards at her respective institutions and with national awards, such as the O’Hara Leadership Award in Direct & Interactive Marketing Education. In 2013, she was inducted into the Incredible Women of ECU series, which highlights female graduates of East Carolina University who have reached exceptional levels of achievement in their respective careers. She is one of only 110 women to achieve this distinction. This text book is for my mba class in social media marketing. It is a really hard book to read with any seriousness.It feels like they just wrote a book if buzz words trying to sound intelligent but in the end it's just lacking what a text book needs to teach and connect with students

Interesting book, I originally bought it because I needed it for a class. Learning a lot from it. My only complaint would be how it looks like on kindle, and there's been numerous times where I've caught typos. Talking about social media marketing, which of course involves e-books, etc. and they can't even proofread or optimize the book so that it looks great on kindle? Haha.

Amazing that it is so up-to-date in a fast-changing field!

it was a textbook

Social Media Marketing was a decent introduction to the social media corporate world. It was very informative on the aspects of social media and what it can do for businesses. The authors begin by explaining what social media actually is, it's structures, framework, and it's communities. They then dedicate a section to various topics such as social media planning, tactics, and data management.However, it was poorly written and difficult to follow. The writing wasn't pretentious. Rather, it lacked sentence variety, and was written completely in passive voice. It was hard to grasp what was being taught in the midst of indirect, never ending sentences. Aside from that, the textbook provided good advice on strategy and a nice introduction to social media marketing, while keeping students in mind who may not be digital natives.
