This is a 5-star gem of a book! I loved this book for so many reasons...1. It made me happy! It had me laughing and smiling all the way. Penny is lovely and relatable and funny and sharpwitted. Her journey towards happiness moves between Penny Present (with her family, career and quest for happiness) and Penny Past as we visit with (and relate to) Little Penny, and is filled with stories that entertain and charm!2. Penny GETS IT ... it was like she was in my head and had heard all my thoughts. It's down-to-earth and very real - a breath of fresh air!3. It was beautifully written - Penny wields her words with precision whether it's to make you smile or laugh or warm and break your heart just a little.I highly recommend the wonderful book!

I literally laughed out loud while reading this book! I can only imagine that writing comedically must be a very difficult thing to do, but Penny has this gift in abundance. That aside, I also found myself so relating to her struggle with her self-critic, corporate life and seeking happiness..... a great read indeed!

Her husband constantly asks Peggy if she is happy. She wants to give her children a garden to play in as she had as a child, but has an award-winning landscape company design her gardens which requires her to stay at a corporate job she hates to pay for it. No happiness there. She thought her gardens would be in a magazine due to the prestigious landscapers, but it didn't happen. Again no happiness. She wants to be a happiness coach but has to find her own happiness. Peggy hilariously relates her tries to find happiness through yoga, running, meditation, horseback riding, organic gardening and cooking all to no avail. I have received a free copy of this book and am reviewing it voluntarily.

“Penny has a wonderful way with words and pulls the reader in beautifully – I could so relate to her alter-ego Sally, as I am sure many readers will, as this is so true to real life. The moral of the story that the things we seek are under our noses is really profound, and Penny’s sharing of her journey to get there was heartfelt – thank you Penny for sharing your gifts of skilful writing and understanding of the human psyche with us.”

This is a funny book. Maybe I enjoyed it so much because I am a woman 'of a certain age'. And maybe I enjoyed it because I have a similar sense of humor. Penny's quest for happiness is fun and snarky. Anyone who has ever been an overloaded wife, mother, employee will enjoy Penny's attempt to 'become happy'. I know I did.I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I thought parts of the book was great and entertaining. They were also many long drawn out descriptions that made it hardto get through. The beginning started off good, ways to find happiness. Got bogged down and sometimes lost in the middleof book while she was pursuing happiness. Towards the end of middle knew where she found happiness even if she hadn’trealized it yet. The end improved again with much better flow to the happiness finish.

It was a very entertaining read full of real life and humor. It was interesting to read about Penny's personal journey because I could relate and laugh at the same time.I recommend it to anybody who is looking for some sense in life.I voluntarily reviewed this book after receiving an ARC from Hidden Gems.

I received this copy as a free digital version for an honest review! This book was a good read! Very entertaining! Although I think finding happiness is different for everyone, this book inspires you to want to go out and find that happiness!

INTRODUCTION Get a patent―then make MILLIONS OF DOLLARS! It’s a grand idea, and many people do end up turning their inventions into riches beyond their dreams. However, not many of those successful inventors got rich by mistake. They followed a shrewd strategy, learned the rules needed to play in the patent world, and religiously followed a proven process of writing strong, defensible patents. The Patent Writer is about to take you step-by-step through the patent-writing process so you can start writing valuable patent applications immediately. Not just any patent-writing process, though. The Patent Writer leverages the authors’ decades of expertise in patent law, inventing, and corporate product development. Their industry experience spans the packaging, automotive, medical, sporting goods, software, computer hardware, telecommunications, business methods, machine equipment, and many more industry segments. So, regardless of what industry your invention is destined for, you can be confident that The Patent Writer will intelligently guide you by teaching a logical, easy-to-follow process of writing your own patent that’s clear, focused, and strong. If your patent is going to survive in the real world, it must be “strong.” That means it must be strategically thought out in advance, then well written using the solid principles we teach throughout The Patent Writer. The Patent Writer is the most up-to-date power tool currently available for those who want to learn the art of writing a solid, valuable patent. The Patent Writer feeds you no hype, and it doesn’t sugarcoat the tough parts of writing a patent. If followed, it will enormously increase your probability of joining the other top inventors who own the patents that have earned the big money. In The Patent Writer, you will learn: •         How to effectively write valuable patent applications. •         How to save potentially thousands of dollars writing your own patent application. •         How to write a “provisional” patent application. •         When to use patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, or other intellectual property protection for your invention. •         The different types of patents and which type you should use. •         Why the careful selection of words to describe your invention can mean the difference between a winner and loser―we’ll show you how much power a single word can have. •         Why budgets are important. •         How and when to invest in the expertise of a patent attorney. Yes―there is a reason that patent attorneys spend upwards of a decade learning their craft. Why Do You Even Want A Patent? But even before you run to your computer to start tapping out your patent, you’re going to need to see the “big picture” first. We’re going to take you back a few steps and make sure that you have a realistic understanding of your financial, business, and personal objectives, since they will shape your patent-writing strategy. You probably want to make money from your patent, right? But how are you going to get someone to pay you for your invention? Some inventors decide to go into business to make and sell their invention themselves. Other inventors have no desire to make their own products, but plan on licensing their invention to a large company that will ultimately pay them a royalty. It stands to reason that only the inventor who wants to make and sell his or her invention needs to learn about marketing, sales, manufacturing, and finance. In reality, the inventor that plans on licensing his or her invention must become the most knowledgeable about these “big company processes.” In order to make sure your invention is successful, you must make sure that the big corporations will pay you for it. Each manager will look at your invention from completely different perspectives, and try to find reasons NOT to license it. For that reason, we’ll help you to understand what motivates the finance manager, manufacturing director, marketing executive, and senior engineer, and how to make sure you write your patent to address their issues. Your invention, and more to the point, your well-written patent, should speak to every one of these corporate managers. Your patent must answer their questions even before they are asked―and by the time you finish applying the The Patent Writer formula, it will. Follow Our Lead The Patent Writer not only tells you the patent-writing process you’ll need to follow to succeed, we immediately apply our suggestions to an actual patent application, making it easier than ever to understand how to write a winning patent. Throughout this book, you’ll follow how we write our own patent application for our “Illuminated Hammer” invention. At each critical step of the patent-writing process, whenever you see the small square hammer icon, you will see how we applied The Patent Writer method to our Illuminated Hammer invention. Follow the same process to writing the patent for your own invention and you are on the road to success! In fact, our Illuminated Hammer sample will show you the entire process of taking the invention from the idea stage right through to a final patent application, including our different approaches to the invention (the embodiments), and the drafting of our patent claims to obtain maximum protection. We’ll even show you the different approaches that could be used to manufacture our hammer―and you’ll be amazed at how manufacturability issues actually reshaped how we wrote our important patent claims. By following the Illuminated Hammer throughout The Patent Writer, you’ll learn first-hand the logical process you will follow to write your own patent. Patent-Drafting Techniques Patent drafting is a wonderful art form that you will find interesting and challenging. Inventors who draft their own patent applications are usually better educated and appreciative of the patent process. By following the guidelines in this book, you will discover the art of patent drafting and how to apply it to your respective inventions in a responsible manner. From this point forward we will be discussing patent drafting. Parts of a patent are written, but patents also contain references to other similar patents discovered during a patent search, as well as drawings. Together, we refer to the whole of creating a patent application as patent drafting. This book cannot show you all of the possible methods of drafting patent applications. However, in view of the much-anticipated decision in Phillips v. AWH Corporation (decided July 12, 2005), we can explain current laws describing how patent claims are now interpreted so you may write a successful patent application. Unfortunately, other patent-drafting books printed before the Phillips case utilize outdated writing techniques ―and are possibly even dangerous to use. You will also want to visit www.patentwriter.com often to ensure that you are educated as to the most current patent laws and cases. Based upon current law and practices, we’re going to show you the two main approaches to patent drafting: 1. Ordinary Meaning Technique; and 2. Lexicography Technique. You do not have to limit yourself to only one technique for drafting your patent application―you can easily choose which technique works best for each portion of your application. After reading this book, you will be able to determine which technique or combination thereof is best. Here’s a quick preview of these techniques―you’ll see why it’s important to understand the key differences in your writing approach. Ordinary Meaning Technique This technique is relatively basic and simple as suggested by its title. The patent drafter utilizes words that have established meanings to “one skilled in the art” of his or her invention. In other words, no conflicting meanings for words are used in the patent application that would give a word a meaning different than the “ordinary meaning.” In addition to your written patent, dictionaries, encyclopedias, treatises, and other types of extrinsic evidence may be used by a court to help determine the ordinary meaning of the words used in your application. Throughout the book, we’ll provide you with examples, making it easy for you to follow. The potential upside to this method is that it’s simple, easy, and reduces the chances of including an unnecessary limitation within your patent application. The potential downside to this method is that you are stuck with the ordinary meanings of terms as understood by a hypothetical person of ordinary skill in the art of your invention. Lexicography Technique Lexicography is the art of making up words or applying a certain definition to existing words. The definition you provide to words with this technique may narrow or broaden their ordinary meaning. As stated, you are determining the exact definition of words in your patent application through this technique, which requires a solid understanding of the invention and the industry. When you specifically define the meaning of a term, you are trumping the established ordinary meaning and creating your own meaning for that term. Remember, you can use this technique for one or more of the terms used in your application while allowing the remaining words to retain their “ordinary meaning.” The potential upside to this method is that you are in control of the meanings applied to the words in your patent application. The potential downside to this method is that you may inadvertently include unnecessary narrowing language in your definitions. Make Your Own Decision Remember, you do not have to select just one technique for drafting your patent application. Choose the technique that you feel the most comfortable with. If you are very strong in grammar and understand the industry of your invention very well, then the lexicography technique may be attractive to you. If you are not that strong in grammar or do not fully understand the industry of your invention, then the ordinary meaning technique may be attractive to you. As always, you can mix these two writing techniques as you feel comfortable doing. Know Before You Go We’ve given you the quick tour of The Patent Writer roadmap to writing a successful patent. Now it’s time to put the process into action. As every successful inventor knows, being prepared is the first order of business, so pull out your inventor’s journal and pencil, get your computer fired up, and then get ready to begin The Patent Writer method! Remember, anyone can “invent.” Now enter The Patent Writer world, and prepare to successfully invent―you’re about to write your first winning patent.

This book is a must read for anyone interested in gaining custody over their intellectual property in the eye's of the law. The writers do a great job captivating the reader on long process. In particular, Mr. Neustel's experience and easy to understand directions are a true breath of fresh air to the normally dry and witless intellectual property writings I had previously read. I plan to get Mr. Neustel to sign my copy of the book when I see him speak next week. Truly though, great read for those who are and those who are not interested in the patent process.

This is a good, well-rounded guide regarding the composition of patents & the general protocols. (I work as a liaison between engineers/scientists & patent lawyers, & I do find a lot of useful information in this book.) It does assume--wisely--that the reader will be using a patent attorney as a resource. But this explains the way claims are formed (independent & dependent), the verbiage used for the application's description content, & other how-to information (such as how to develop figure illustrations compliant with patenting protocols. So I'd recommend this as a fine book that can be referenced by inventors, paralegals, & those involved in the development of patent applications.

Still reading ... too much money for a book on patents with a 2006 copyright .. so much changed with the new law .. yet looks like there are some valuable links in the book I look forward to trying out.Daniel BraistedAdministrator@VegasInventors

Very helpful. Great how-to guide. Especially good for writing provisional patent applications. The author has solid experiencehe's willing to share.

This book is heavy with self-promotion and devoted to convincing the reader that only a patent attorney can perform the magic. This is reinforced by touching on issues in an incomplete way and saying "this is too hard for you, so ask your patent attorney." Also the organization is not great - it jumps around a bit and contradicts itself in at least one place (whether a provisional patent should have a claim). "Patent it Yourself" and other books are better.

From the Back Cover

“Just like every collection, this one is a diary as well: a diary of travels, of course, but also of feelings, states of mind, moods . . . The fascination of a collection lies just as much in what it reveals as in what it conceals of the secret urge that led to its creation.” — from Collection of SandItalo Calvino’s unbounded curiosity and masterly imagination are displayed in peak form in Collection of Sand, the last of his works published during his lifetime. Here he applies his graceful intellect to the delights of the visual world, in essays on subjects ranging from cuneiform and antique maps to Mexican temples and Japanese gardens. Never before translated into English, Collection of Sand is an incisive and often surprising meditation on observation and knowledge, the difference between the world as we perceive it and the world as it is.“Beautifully translated by Martin McLaughlin . . . To read [Collection of Sand] is to enter the presence of an exceptionally fervent and fertile mind . . . A brilliant collection that may change the way you see the world around you.” — PD Smith, GuardianITALO CALVINO (1923–1985) attained worldwide renown as one of the twentieth century’s greatest storytellers. Born in Cuba, he was raised in Italy, where he lived most of his life. Among his many works are Invisible Cities, If on a winter’s night a traveler, The Baron in the Trees, and other novels, as well as numerous collections of fiction, folktales, criticism, and essays. His works have been translated into dozens of languages.

Eclectic collection, a must for those interested or new to Calvino

The traveling part is especially interesting, Japan I mean. Previously two parts are a bit boring and abstract. All in all good writing.

Reading these stories is like having Calvino for a house guest. They are honest, intimate thoughts.

Brilliant as always

Thought provoking essays

There can be no doubt that the world lost one of its greatest and most entertaining essayists with the untimely death of Italo Calvino as this collection of essays so admirably demonstrates. These essays reaffirm that the Renaissance man did not become extinct with the end of that period.Italo Calvino is that unique essayist who had an encyclopedic knowledge and a talent to make his interests, observations, and conclusions so captivating, that the reader almost loses sight of his profundity. At the same time, he never falls into dilettantism as we follow his thinking. Who would describe the image of Ahura Mazda as a "pilot sitting in a cockpit of a plane? Who can make a piece about archaeological diggings of a pig farm from ancient Roman times seem, well timely? Who can take the topic of graffiti and the city and turn it into a journey that takes us from ancient cities, to medieval cities, to the present day that is not pedantic but insightful and topical. The true joy of such a collection is in reading a chapter in each section and making your own conclusions as to why they are cataloged in such a manner, or simply bouncing erratically from essay to essay according to your personal whims.Less we fall into a melancholic miasma of loss at this writer's death, it is reassuring to know that he has left us with a wealth footnotes and references for us to begin our own journeys. A brilliant coda to a remarkable career.

A very good book, if you want an erudite rendering of a variety of subjects. These days, people write blogs, formal and informal. In the old days, they wrote essays. Unlike blogs, which are interactive, essays are not, and this means that if you want to read a book like this, you need to have a smattering of knowledge of the subject that the author is writing about. This, I did not have.Apart from that, while he wrote very well, the writing did not engage me, neither the first part, nor the succeeding parts, which were more about travel. This was disappointing for me, as I generally like his books a lot.

You think you have it hard?We all have problems. G-d challenges us with these difficulties so that we can grow as people. G-d wants us to reach out to Him, appreciate Him and love Him.The "holy woman" is an example that few of us ever have the honor of meeting. The way this holy woman deals with challenges will spur you on to take your challenges to a higher level. This book brings the heroine right into your home. She will inspire you and make you want to be a better person; less complaints, more appreciation.Thank you, Sara Yoheved Rigler, for bringing Chaya Sara Kramer and her tzaddik husband (Yaakov Moshe Kramer) into our lives. We may not have been able to meet them, but thanks to you, we can learn from them.A powerful book and would make a great wedding or bas mitzvah gift.

A friend of mine who teaches Jewish studies, knowing my interest in hasidic spirituality, recommended Sara Rigler's Holy Woman to me. It's a fascinating portrait not only of the tzaddikah to whom the title refers, Chaya Sara Kramer, but also of her husband, Yaakov Moshe Kramer, whom many believe to have been one of the lamed-vav tzaddikim, one of the 36 undivulged holy men whose merit sustains the world.Chaya Sara, born in Carpathia, survived Auschwitz (alone of her family) and migrated to Israel in 1946. There she met and married Yaakov Moshe and settled in a small farming community. Their lives were devoted to acts of devotion and chesed (loving-kindness, the chief characteristic of God). Living in voluntary poverty (which shocked many of their visitors), they gave unstintingly of money and time. Having no children of their own, they opened their home to a number of severely mentally and handicapped children, raising them with love and dedication. (In reading Rigler's account of their devotion to children that the world rejects, one's reminded of Jean Vanier's L'Arche communities.) Worried about diminished opportunity for children of once-hasidic families to benefit from an orthodox education, Yaakov Moshe dedicated years of his life to raising tuition money for indigent Jewish kids. In all these acts of charity, Yaakov Moshe tried to encourage "mutual givers": getting together people who could give financial help with needy people who could give prayers and blessings in turn. One of the most fascinating points in the book is the story of Avramele, the retarded lad that the Kramer's raised from a toddler, and who was still living with Chaya Sara at her death. Chaya Sara and Yaakov Moshe considered Avramele a tzaddik in his own right, even though he had the intellect of a 5 year old. (In the Christian tradition, Avramele might be called a "holy fool.") For them, caring for Avramele was not only a loving joy. It was also an honor.Rigler's writing is fresh and engaging. She makes me very much wish I could've met Chaya Sara and Yaakov Moshe, and that I could've received their blessing. In only one way is the book a bit flawed. Rigler violates her own principle, stated early on, that saints are exemplary: merely observing their behavior is a spiritual tonic for the rest of us. Instead of letting her wonderful stories about the Kramers speak for themselves and letting us observe them through her descriptions, however, she breaks the narrative flow with "signpost" interruptions in which she offers spiritual reflections. In all honesty, I began to find the signposts intrusive, and stopped reading them after awhile. Aside from this, though, the book is highly recommended.

I purchased this book last week for a Chanukah present for my wife. It is one of the greatest biographies either one of us has read. It will inspire, make you want to be a better person, and create real Kiddush Hashem in everything you do.My favorite section of the book was the hidden Tzadik and examining the inner life of Rav Yaakov Moshe Kramer ztl. WOW! My wife and I finished the book within the first 3 days of having it. It is really a powerful book, I have recommended it to my friends.

Very enjoyable book, so much to learn from it. Recommended reading for all women. recommended by Rabbi Mordecai Kraft. Thank you.

Absolutely inspiring. Bought years ago, but have read a few times since then.

One of the best books that I ever read.

Whenever you think that your life is challenging or difficult, read a little of this book. What a special woman she was, and how amazing that her belief system stayed intact throughout her many trials and tribulations. And yet she remained joyful and positive, always helping others. Beautifully written as well!

For some idiotic reason this was written like the King James version of the Bible. This is NOT a direct from Hebrew text, like the author claims.

If this book is supposed to be historical, then it should be in line with what the bible teaches. One most blatant contradictions and Inaccuracies is found on page 152 of this book. It states the following: Also what Isaac did when Jacob had fled from his brother, when he commanded him, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan, nor make alliance with any of the children of Ham. For the Lord our God gave Ham the son of Noah, and his children and all his seed, as slaves to the children of Shem, and to the children of Japhet , and unto their seed after them for slaves, forever. The bible does not say this. This is actually a lie that has been preached through religion all over the world for generations to enslave the minds of brown people. What the bible actually does say is this: King James Genesis 9:25 : And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren. Who are Canaan’s brethren ? Cush, Mitzraim and Phut ( Ethiopia, Egypt and Abyssinia). Not Shem and Japhet. And Notice that Ham was never cursed. Again we read in King James Genesis 9:26: And he said, Blessed be the Lord God of Shem: and Canaan shall be his servant. who’s servant? The Lord God of Shem. So Canaan will be God’s servant NOT Shem’s servant. Let us not forget that Abraham married a Canaanite named Keturah (pg. 53 Book of Jasher) Jacob and his sons make a peace treaty or alliance with the kings of Canaan (pg 86-87 Book of Jasher) The sons of Jacob also took Canaanite wives. Moses himself married a Medianite. All daughters and sons of Ham. So see? There is no curse on Ham. Nor on his seed to serve Shem and Japhet. Due to this huge discrepency, I give this book a one star.

Wow does this make the Bible come alive! Our small group is studying the book of Genesis and we got this to see what it said about Biblical subjects. This is NOT part of the original cannon of the Holy Bible, however, it is quoted in the Bible and old Biblical scholars used it as a second reference. It makes parts of the Bible easier to understand through a layman's eyes. For example, it tells us that Noah took the original skin clothing that God made for Adam and Eve after they had sinned, and brought them on the ark to save them. They eventually fell into the hands of the evil OT Biblical king Nimrod! (Tower of Babel) Very interesting stuff! We make sure we use the Holy Scripture as our guideline, but this we use as an OT commentator only. But it is fascinating!

Did you know that this was one of the scrolls which Jesus read growing up at Synagogue? Did you know that it was removed from OUR BIBLES just 200 some odd years ago?! I love this book! It fills in so many gaps in Genesis; like issac's part in Issac's sacrifice of his own body, his true age and why it was that the Egyptian handmade and her son, Ishmael, were cast out of Abraham's city. Why is it that we have read this for MILLENNIA and just 200 years ago- this (and many other books) were removed!? Think about it!

I have enjoyed this book very much. I've learned so much about Jacobs son's, about Abraham and Sarah, Nimrod, Esau etc. Interesting what happened with Esau the day the sold his birthright. No footnotes.Good bindingHeavy paper with decent size print. Easy to read.Appendix A has: Births and Deaths Marriages Notable Events Gentile Kings Table of NationsAppendix B has: Questions and AnswersVarious authors notes about the text.

The book of Jasher is basically the old testament but with more detail. You learn more about the people of the old testament and what was going on before and after the flood. Pre-Abraham times are more detailed. Abram/Abraham's journeys are detailed - he traveled around a lot before settling. You can see why God was so angry with mankind and why He wiped out the earth. The vile things people did especially after the angels mated with women and created the giants. They were a nasty group and settled in the valleys. These were 10' to 13' people with evil hearts. Animals that we only have fossils of are documented as well as hybrids. This may sound wild to some but the old testament alludes to the Nephilium (giants) but doesn't go into much detail. They existed as well as the vileness that caused God to kill everyone but Noah, his wife and children. The book of Jasher even names Noah's wife and his children. The book of Jasher was read by the people at that time. It is alluded to in Danial. There were three other books that were common reading, but only the book of Jasher has been preserved. This along with the book of Enoch are books referenced in the new testament. They were not canonized but they are not Gnostic (Jewish Gnostisism) books like some the other books of that time.

WOW! WOW! WOW! One of the best investments I've ever made. This book has helped tremendously with increasing my understanding of the old testament. It puts so many of the pieces together that are not in the Bible. I had no idea that Esau was the one who killed Nimrod which is why when he ran into his brother Jacob he was weary and fearful that his life may end that day so he gave up his birthright with ease because of the mindset he was in. Nimrod's guards were looking for Esau to kill him for what he had done. The Bible does not go into detail and leaves out the bit with Nimrod so you really don't know what Esau was doing prior to him running into his brother. That explains why he was so exhausted as well while speaking to Jacob. I also knew nothing about Abraham's early years and his relationship to Nimrod. For those who don't know, Nimrod is the wicked king who is responsible for the tower of Babel. I'm so excited that now I read with proper context and deeper understanding of the people in the Bible.
