This book felt as if it was written for an high school creative writing class. It lacked any sort of description. In fact, I rolled my eyes every time the author described Akshay as a "hunk" or when she described Sunita with her "slight figure". This story did not pull me in, did not transport me to the setting of this novel, nor did I empathize with the characters. Essentially the author wrote her idealized Bollywood story. There was no depth of character, no depth of scene, no depth of story, and certainly, no depth in the ending. The story was presented as a Bollywood movie - sweet, angelic, innocent heroine, dashing, self-assured, rich hero. The hero falls in love at first sight. The couple meet, dance around, sing some songs. The hero gets into trouble (innocently, of course, because he's a hunk, who's of excellent character). The heroine nurses him back to health, and is willing to sacrifice everything for the hero. Enter the "bad guy" - her father. Sprinkle in the wise grandfather, useless mother, and even more useless older sister. Everything is resolved within one page; the father feeling ashamed at his own father's magnanimous behavior. The contract being ripped to shreds by both lovers. End of story. The only problem was there was no story. There was no heart to this tale; nothing new, no growth. I could not have hated this book more than I did.

Well paced. Beautifully written.I read a lot of romance and this is the first Indian romance , it very well written and so cute.It has SAM. It is 18+ reading but nothing trashy...just like lot of other famous historical and contemporary romances those hit the best sellers list.

It was a quick read. Sometimes the characters parents are a little more than normal. But overall an okay story.

First of all I was amazed to find out that The Malhotra Bride was a self published book by Sundari. If books like this are around, then there may yet be hope for other good authors who want to get published through this route.The Malhotra Bride is the story of Sunita, a young 20 year old girl who wants a career and longs to travel. But her parents want her to get married and are actively looking for a match. They find the perfect one in Akshay Malhotra, a young handsome scion of a business family. Sunita tries to resist but her parents are adamant. She tries to enlist her adorable dadiji and he promises her that he won’t allow anyone to pressurize her.Enter the hero, Akshay. Sauve, handsome and debonair he is certainly the stuff that dreams are made of :) He too is not very happy with his parents trying to arrange a marriage with an unknown girl. He protests against the match until he glances at the beautiful photo of Sunita. Captivated by her beauty, he agrees to meet her with an open mind. And he gets a clandestine glimpse at her when she comes out of her computer class.What happens when they meet? Will Sunita reject him outright?Sundari’s impeccable language and prose is a joy to read and will have you turning page after page. And she has a knack of creating hot (very) couples in all her novels. The Malhotra Bride makes a perfect weekend read, especially if you are looking for some hot romance.Plus Points: Sundari’s perfect prose and language. It’s impeccable! And her hot heroes and heroinesMinus Points: Wished this was a much longer novel with more conflicts.Verdict: Read it if you are die-hard romantic. If not you will become one, after reading this.

The story is sweet and once I started it, I could not keep the book down, I was so hooked to it. The characters have been developed well and are very real: Akshay is someone every girl dreams of and Sunita is really confused. Grandpa Ratan is endearing and I loved the way Raj Malhotra calls Sunita ‘Princess’. It felt that I was watching a Bollywood movie, only the songs were missing. Perhaps most importantly and uniquely, it also addresses the personal aspect of making such a transition, which can feel like an overlooked issue that is likely more of a roadblock than lawyers realize. The book provides plenty of perspectives from which to think about your transition, as well as plenty of follow-up actions you can take to begin, push along or complete your transition.

Monica Parker's incredible book, The (Un)happy Lawyer, truly changed my life. Reading this book gave me the necessary tools to rediscover my innate talents, life goals and career aspirations. I took diligent notes while reading, followed every single recommendation, and have referred back to the book for inspiration on several occasions. If you are ready to break away from the constraints that are keeping you from living your best possible life, this book will be your guide.

While not everyone will be ready for the content of this book, and as such may not see the immense value in Ms. Parker's writing, for any lawyer interested and willing to embrace positive change in their lives, and assess whether they could go from "unhappy" to "happy" this book is for them. I first picked this book up a few years ago when I was struggling with whether I wanted to leave the law, or change my situation within the practice of law. I was immediately drawn to Ms. Parker's honest voice, and found myself looking forward to the vignettes in each chapter sharing a story or "case study" from other lawyers going through similar challenges as I was. I also found many of the suggestions as much needed tough love and just what I needed to hear (i.e. maybe I needed to reassess my circle of friends in the law, who were all negative!).I talk to and work with many law students and new lawyers who are trying to find their way towards success in their legal careers. Unfortunately, many lawyers are unhappy - 75% of lawyers would not encourage their children to become lawyers! Yikes! Many times, those feelings of unhappiness lead very smart individuals to react, instead of respond to their situation. A reaction would be quitting your job and deciding to open a B&B without any prior research or experience. A response would be to methodically begin to arm yourself with information, create a plan, and assess what would bring you more happiness and fulfillment, even if it is just a change of practice area or firm, or something more drastic. The Unhappy Lawyer is a great first step in starting to arm yourself with information to make responsive decisions.If you are fine being miserable and just keeping your nose to the grindstone, then this book is not for you...yet anyway. If you are looking to find a silver lining, or a glimmer of hope, get this book and devour it! Kudos to Ms. Parker for sharing her own story and providing such a great resource for a happier generation of lawyers.

It is a good book to read if you are feeling frustrated with your career choice. However do not expect to have all your problems solve since the book only give you tasks to help you figure out what to do next.

Monica's book really helped me to understand that I wasn't alone in my feelings about the practice of law. She has a real talent for identifying the emotional and practical obstacles to making a career change and how to develop a plan and work your way through them.

I'm not a huge fan of self help books but I found some interesting food for thought in this book.
