Baltimore-born Matthew Weiner is series creator, executive producer, writer, and director of the critically acclaimed, award-winning drama Mad Men. Weiner’s additional credits include serving as an executive producer and writer on The Sopranos, and as a writer on various television comedy series including The Naked Truth, Becker, and Andy Richter Controls the Universe. Weiner’s feature film Are You Here was released in 2013. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife, architect Linda Brettler, and their four sons.

I'm a huge fan of Taschen books, and a huge Mad Men fan. Sadly this XL book left me underwhelmed. The biggest issue is the rather non vibrant printing, and the wonderful photos kinda look like faded snapshots off a monitor (actually snapshots would be vastly more intensely colored). SO much black ink and every photo is way too dark. There are also inaccuracies in the photo descriptions (e.g., paraphrasing, Megan on the set of her soap opera (no, it's the tv commercial for Butler Shoes)). Clearly Matt Weiner didn't proof the book before printing. I'm glad I have it because I'm such a fan but aside from its size and the great covers and packaging, this doesn't deliver its potential.
This was a Christmas gift for my wife (and me!). She loved it. This set is impeccably packaged and presented. The book is actually heavy to lift. The interview book is a great read and fun to relive this fantastic TV series. The main book goes episode by episode. You will not be disappointed. The maker of this book went out of their way to present a first class package for fans of this beloved show.
This is a beautiful book and is very Big. That was not expected.
5 stars are not nearly enough for this amazing labor of love for everyone who obsessed over Mad Men and misses it terribly! First of all, it's packaged in a briefcase sized box, which is phenomenal. And you better reinforce your coffee table, because this baby is HEAVY! Volume 1 allows you to relive the show, with beautiful photos and quotes covering the show from the beginning to the very end, in 840 glossy pages.Volume 2 includes interviews and behind the scenes treasures and , while slimmer, is heavy on content.We've been waiting for this for years, and I'm thrilled to say, it as totally worth it!Christmas came early this year!!!
The books were beautifully bound and I loved the actual box they came in. The books themselves accurately detailed the seven seasons and the photography was amazing.
Best all around book on Madmen. It will take weeks or months to get through it all. The only neg are most of the photos are just screen shots form the DVD's that are poor quality. I took a star away for this fact. If you want really clear photos of some of the episodes from madmen then buy one of the promo books out that were sent to the press and awards judges. They can be found on line for I have several of them form each season. I was glad that I purchased and hope to get through all 1000 or so pages of material before I die.
So yeah, after reading the reviews, I think I know the issue.1. it's price to where you would expect a bit more content2. first book is really just fancy screenshotsBut...I got this on a deal (read like forty bucks) so it's worth it at that price.Pros:+ great packaging+ nice heavy books with nice picturesCons:- a bit longer (length) pages so a little harder to turn?- at msrp, maybe not the best deal
