Review

These adorable "Counting Primer" board-books are brought to you by Gibbs Smith publishers, and they are truly adorable. If you want to get your little bub interested in Jane Austen as much as you, then you can't go past this. With gorgeous pinks, greens, blues and other dusty colours it's the most elegant children's book I've seen in a while, and if your child is learning their 1 to 10 then this is a must buy. (Jennifer Duke thebennetsisters.wordpress.com 2011-07-07)A small compact cardboard version of a book - easy for a child to hold, unrippable and chewable. At 22 pages, it was both compact and lightweight, but what will ultimately appeal to parent and child is the Pride and Prejudice theme. . . . I was awed by the choice of characters, Regency clothing and objects used and the ease of the text.. Charming, whimsical and historical accurate, Pride & Prejudice: A BabyLit Counting Primer offers the very young reader an early introduction to Jane Austen, planting seeds for her total world take-over! (Laurel Ann Nattress Austenprose.com 2011-08-03)What do board books and classic novels have in common? A new series from Gibbs Smith brings classic writers like Lewis Carroll, Charlotte Bronte, Jane Austen, and William Shakespeare to toddlers by creating oversized board books with bright colors and easy to understand words. BabyLit board books are a must for every travel savvy parent's carry-on luggage. (Tina Buell Trekaroo.com 2012-04-24)Perfect as a gift for a literary-loving expectant mother or to introduce your little one to the classics, BabyLit® has brilliantly created primers out of classic literature such as Pride & Prejudice, Romeo & Juliet and Alice in Wonderland, written by Jennifer Adams and illustrated by Allison Oliver. Four of the titles have even been turned into iBooks and are available for purchase on the iBookstore. Not only that, you can purchase prints, stuffed character dolls, buttons and totes that correspond with each of the tales. How adorable would these Pride & Prejudice prints be to decorate a little girl’s nursery, complete with a Mr. Darcy doll? I’m honestly in love with these products! I was impressed with the format of the text and bright images. I also loved the simple interactivity that can be found by touching the pictures on certain pages. Children will love to find the sounds of people talking, horses neighing and music playing as they read this story. (Amy The Brilliant Blog for Children's Books 2013-03-07)

I absolutely love every little book I've gotten by Jennifer Adams, as does my 24 month old. My daughter was so in love with her version of Alice in Wonderland that I started looking at her other books to add to our collection. This book did not disappoint! This book is not a simplified version of the lovely Pride and Prejudice, but rather a counting book based on the story.I think Austen fans will definitely appreciate this, it's just so incredibly charming in every way!I've enclosed a few pictures, hope they help.

This book is absolutely precious. When I bought it, I assumed it would be a very brief/child's version of the actual love story between Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy. If that is what you are expecting, you will be disappointed. This is not a story at all, but one of those books that counts to ten with each page having a number and that number is represented with specific objects. For example, one of the pages is "9 fancy ball gowns" and has an illustration of 9 fancy all gowns.I gave this 4 stars because even though it wasn't what I was expecting, I still love the premise and the illustrations are so cute.

So, this is flippin' adorable. I bought it while looking for kindle books to read to my 2 year old, and as soon as my Austen obsession collided with this baby verson, I HAD to have it! It's a counting book, and Baby loooooved counting the pictures with me, as I told her a little about each thing we counted, adding to this book with tiny details from the original. And we had FUN! I intend to buy her the actual board book for her little book collection we've started. I also fully intend to grab more of this cute little series.Bob says: 5 Platypires and Pugglepire approved!

I am very impressed with this board book of one of the great classics of British literature. It is designed for counting but in the process my grandson will be introduced to all the main characters and locations of the novel and will be familiar with them when it's time to read the real thing. These classic board books are a wonderful idea.

As a literary educator, who holds a Master's in English, I was quite intrigued with this book when I received it in a collection as a gift for my 11- month-old daughter. I absolutely love this book because not only does it help children with language acquisition and counting, but it introduces them to classic literary tales, albeit an abridged version, at an early age. My daughter enjoys the bright colors and the numbers as well as the additional information I give her about each section. For example, on the fourth section it says, "four marriage proposals," and I explain to her why Lizzy turned down Mr. Collins and then Mr. Darcy (the first time).I purchased it for a baby shower gift for my friend.

though my kids are way beyond the board book age, i saw this version of "pride and prejudice" and *had* to get a copy just to make my jane austen library complete. (i also have the marvel comics versions of "pride & prejudice", "emma", and "sense and sensibility.", but that's another review.)counting to 10 is just a device to let the parents in on the details of the books, ending with the ubiquitous "10,000 pounds a year!" uttered by the awed mrs. bennet. at least 2 other friends of mine (whose children are also beyond the board book years) decided when i showed it to them that they were also going to purchase it for themselves! very cute artwork and presentation, keeping with the modern take on the regency genre. kudos to the authoress.

Face it, this isn't for the baby; it's for Mom or Dad to look through a say "Awww!" The allusions to the novel are mostly in the bright and cheerful illustrations. The text is fairly blah. However, if the high school English teacher in your life is about to add a baby bookworm to his or her brood, you've got yourself a solid gift in the Baby Lit board book.

This is ADORABLE. It's a nice little board book that turns Pride & Prejudice into a counting book. A really great idea for a new parent who loves Pride & Prejudice. It's full of cute little jokes that fans of the novel will get a kick out of.
