This book concentrates primarily on the customer service aspect of the Nordstrom Store. It emphasized that this is not a store for everyone, but for a select few with the right customer service attitude and willingness to work hard, that success would be theirs. Along the way it tells how the founders of the company got their start and follows the development of Seattle and its connection to the gold rush of the 1900's and the gateway to trade with the Orient as an economic supplier of jobs and business growth. The policy of inventory carried in depth led to great customer satisfaction by always being in stock on in demand items. The family of young brothers and their personal interest in customer service and close relationships with employees contributed greatly to the success of the company. Employees were encouraged to act in the best interest of their customers with the promise that management would support their actions, at least once. From a historical point, it is an interesting chronology of a very successful regional department stores. It all began with shoes and has progressed from their into a store with great customer loyalty and employee dedication to serving the customer well. A GOOD COMBINATION FOR SUCCESS.

This is a good book and tells a neat story. As I read it I got the feeling that it was written shortly after the companies big fight with the union (Nordstrom won). So, the last section of the book is all about that and Nordstrom's view. At that point the book comes across as propaganda and not so much about "the Nordstom way" Still, up to that point it was good.And when I took the Duck tour in Seattle (its a local tour thing) I was able to answer the question the tour guide gave, "Who was one of the only people to make money from the Alaska gold rush?" of course, Nordstrom.

Too many food guides for diabetics give food equivelants in volume (i.e. cups) measure. When comparing spaghetti to ziti or large cubes to small cubes, the amount contained by a cup varies significantly. Bowes & Church's, (the first book in which I found the nutritive values by weight) had lacked sugar and monounsatured fatty acids data. That deficiency is now corrected. Some food catagories have been expanded (i.e. Varieties of summer squash are now separately listed). This is definitely the best compendium of food nutrient content that I have found.

A very informative book jam packed with useful information. I used it in college 20 years ago while studying dietetics. I wanted an updated copy hence this purchase. Everything you could possibly want to know about the nutrients of all kinds of foods is listed. It is a very comprehensive guide and includes lots of tables showing the nutritive requirements for various groups of individuals.

This book has information on just about anything that you need to know about food--especially in terms of nutrient value, vitamins and minerals. It is a wonderful resource if you have someone with special dietary needs and you need tables to assist you in finding the foods that are appropriate. I was introduced to it years ago at a nursing nutrition conference and it has become my favorite resource. It was time to up-date--all sections have changed and been updated but especially the area of fast foods--certainly an ever changing area in today's society. If you are cooking for a diabetic or some one in chronic renal failure this should be on your shelf.

really excellent book! I have to track my potassium for medical reasons and there is NO nutrition book out here for anyone to buy that goes beyond sodium count. When asked for suggestions my hospital dietician recommended this book, but I couldn't find it to buy at any store or college.(priced at $78). I finally found a new"used" copy on Amazon.com for $26. I will be using it the rest of my life it has list of all typed of foods and also brand fast foods too and gives nutrition values for ALL elements and vitamins besides the Basic Cal,Prot,Carb etc...Great Book, I highly recommend it.

As a nurse, i have always found the answers to my questions in this book. I especially like the fast food sections. Some how or another I usually someone who needs it more than I do, and end up buying another one for me.

I'm a kidney dialysis patient and have found this book very useful. It lists key components of foods in the portion sizes that are likely to be used, rather than by the ounce or gram if those aren't the normal portion sizes. The foods are alphabetized by type, including such things as drinks, candy and fast foods by restaurant chain, as well as the staples of everyday existence.I can keep track of the amount of Phosphorus and Potassium, which are crucial for hemodialysis patients to monitor. Also, it lists many other minerals and vitamins, protein, a breakdown of fats, sugars, total carbs and HDL and LDL as well as total cholesterol, triglycerides, water content and other things that may factor into restricted diets for almost anyone watching almost any food components.My only reservation is that many of the foods listed do not list the key components for me (Phosphorus and Potassium).

I read some wonderful reviews about the information in this book. I agree that it is quite informative, but the way it is set up makes it quite difficult to find the information you want. I needed a magnifying glass and a ruler to pick out the information I wanted. I found it bothersome and not worth the effort, so I put it back on ebay & sold it. I purchased the Nutribase Complete Book of Food Counts, and was much happier with my search results.

I bought the Bowes & Church book about 25 years ago after taking a nutrition course. It was an excellent reference source back then. Then I decided to get a newer edition as I was traveling quite a bit and found the book helpful in my choices for eating away from home. I've also found it useful in evaluating recipes to determine just how much fat was in the recipe since I'm typically on a low fat diet (sometimes that fried chicken just calls out). It's very handy for managing your salt intake as well. This is a great way to watch what you are eating and and how much you are eating. In using this book, I've found that I'm more cognizant about nutrition. I'm not a food cop, watching everything I eat, but it's made me more aware about what I put into my body.For those on very special diets like the potassium restricted diets, you will need to find another source. But if you're watching your carbs, fat, or salt, it's a very useful reference book. It's also great for monitoring how much of the minerals(calcium and iron)or vitamins you're taking in.

The book arrived quickly and was in excellent condition. This is a short book with some good points of interest highlighted. There are also a few maps. Not great detail but enough to get orientated with San Jaun before traveling. I would have liked a more detailed book. However, I didn't pay attention to the pg number in the description. This book was exactly what was described and for the price a very good overview or place to start your research before traveling.

We bought this book before going to Puerto Rico. It was a great resource before our trip and we used it a lot.

Book does a very poor job of actually conveying dance concepts in any form. It’s really more a history of dance, and lacks meaningful enough descriptions to accurately define the different dance styles. It feels very much like the author is relying on preconceived notions of dances, which makes it poor supplementary material if you’re taking a dance course that wants definitions of certain basics. The writing is generally fine but there are some spots where things might have been better arranged.The real glaring problem this book has is that the index doesn’t match up at all with the text. Certain things are several pages out of place compared to the index listing, or straight up not mentioned. It makes finding subjects for review really annoying. At least it’s short.

I had to read this for a dance class and we have to answer the questions in the back of the book. The questions seem like they are for another book. One question asked what was the second-generations choreographers' contributions to dance and listed out several choreographers; however, one of the choreographer's listed is a first-generation modern dance choreographer, not second-generation. One inconsistency is fine, but there is at least one inconsistency in each chapter. It makes learning and memorization hard because I'm having to reread all the time. Dance is a fun subject for me; however, the inconsistencies make learning about something fun rather tedious, boring, redundant, and not very motivating.

I bought this for my Dance Appreciation course at school. It's actually not bad reading. I thought I would get bored reading about dance, but the book was written well and contained interesting information.

This is a history book. It says almost nothing about what to look for or at when you see a performance.

Very interesting, compact information about the dance through the ages. I love that it lists references and readings that you can read to subsidize the broad context. It arrived on time for my class.

Well a lot of rail fans are going to be greatly disappointed when they get this book from a well-meaning relative as a holiday gift.It has got a lovely foamer (rail enthusiast) dust cover featuring postcards of the “golden age” of rail travel in the 1950s, when stylish streamline trains ran across America from sea-to-shining-sea. In big white letters there is the title: “Romance of the Rails” — but it’s the sub-titled that is key: “Why the Passenger Trains We Love Are Not the Transportation We Need”.This book is authored by anti-rail critic Randal O’Toole and was published by the CATO Institute, the Koch Brother supported conservative think tank in Washington DC. This is not to say that Mr. O’Toole is not an enthusiast of railroad history, in this book he writes of frequent travel by train across the world and across the country on Amtrak. It’s just that because rail is often subsidized by the government his political philosophy leads him to state that passenger trains shouldn’t exist.He states frequently ad nauseam that rail transit, overnight trains, and high-speed rail is an “obsolete” technology patronized by “elites” and supported by “corrupt” politicians. He lampoons smart regional planning and urban redevelopment projects. The future is self-driving ride-share robo-cars he claims, with airplanes for long-distance travel. Passenger trains should go the way of the stagecoach. Of course, until then — he’ll keep riding them!This is not to say that Mr. O’Toole doesn’t make some fair points including about Amtrak accounting practices and transit agencies building light-rail at the expense of better bus service that would better serve lower-income residents. However, he is dogmatically against passenger rail with selective use of statistics and facts paints an unflattering portrait of what he frequently calls an “obsolete” mode of transport used only by “elites”.Mr. O’Toole writes about high-speed trains that because French citizens don’t regularly ride the TGV it’s not a useful means of transportation — well most Americans don’t fly Southwest or ride Megabus to work or the cinema either!This could have been a book on how reform of passenger rail in the United States by adopting best-practices in construction, operations, marketing, management, and financing from overseas could revolutionize rail transport in the USA. But Mr. O’Toole was careful not to do that, since pointing out that there is a lot better way to run a passenger railroad, could be seen on the part of readers of making an argument for rail!Mr. O’Toole’s argument against passenger rail would be more convincing if perhaps he stopped riding passenger trains himself. One can basically sum up his book as a man who loves riding trains telling others to stop doing so!

As a life long railfan and rider of rail transit both commuter, Amtrak, and trains throughout the world, I reluctantly support this books conclusions. Perhaps if money grew on trees, everyone could share all the joys I have had riding trains. I wish it were so!! But too often my commuter train rides were only well patronized for short intervals depending on time of day or distance from origin or destination. I have been on too many “fully booked” Amtrak sleeping cars with many rooms empty much of the time due to fluctuating demand caused by passengers with varying origins and destinations getting on and off. I know there are those out there who believe that if we taxed folks like the Koch brothers enough we could have all these trains with lots more goodies from our government. Maybe they are right. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, just as I thoroughly enjoyed chasing SP&S 700 through the deserts of Washington state in the early 1990's. How interesting that Randal O'Toole was one of the volunteers who helped restore that locomotive. I too am a railfan, but a person (and a government, as well) must have principles to guide his or her actions. For me, there is God, family, country, and employer. Nothing may be done to advance the interests of the lower entities in violation of the rights of the higher entities. Therefore, I will not steal for my employer, since that would violate my higher obligations to God (not that my employer asks me to).By the same token, just because I like trains, I have no right to have others subsidize my preferences. Fortunately, people's behavior in the free market, when they restrict themselves to moral choices (e.g., one cannot work as a hit man) will result in the market producing what is needed and distributing it fairly. Our ultimate problem in America, of which O'Toole gives countless examples, is that people's money (which they earn by their labor) is forcibly taken by the government and given to others (elites, in fact) who have no rightful claim to it. This book gives countless examples of rail projects which cost hundreds of millions of dollars PER MILE to build, and which very few people ride. Be honest, how many people do you know who take a train to work? If you live near a commuter rail line (outside NYC), how many people ride it compared to how many drive to work? Are all those who drive to work late every day? Can we rightly assume that their cost of driving must be lower what their cost of using the train would be, if the train even goes where they would need it to go? I lived in the Washington, DC area for a couple of years, and NEVER once used the metro in the course of my normal activities, and very few times outside of that. Large parking garages downtown would doubtless be cheaper.Beyond the rail-related things in the book (and the railroad history was totally fascinating, and educational, even for me), O'Toole illuminates the growth & evolution of cities, architecture, and other modes of transportation in America. The underlying message is that if government is giving away money, somebody will be there to take it. We see that i the Credit Mobilier scandal associated with the transcontinental railroad, and we see it again today with these insane rail projects (again, do YOU actually ride them for any practical purpose?).The scariest thing is that rail boondoggles are just a tip of the iceberg of government waste. I wish the government would stay out of matters that rightly belong to the free market, and leave me alone. I didn't get to ride the inaugural run of the new Cascades train (in which I might have gotten a nice souvenir broken leg, or worse), but I did get to suffer greatly in the government-induced housing bubble, which comes from the same mindset that gives us Amtrak, et al. They have a vision of how the world should be, and they will try to herd us like cattle in their efforts to make it work. So many people have jobs that produce things that nobody will voluntarily pay for, and we would all be so much better off if those people were made to do useful work for a living. The government unjustly took some of my money to save 10 minutes travel time for a few people in Washington state, whose half-empty train then fell onto a crowded interstate. The interstate, by the way, is paid for by the gas taxes of those who actually use it, and it will ALWAYS carry more people than will Amtrak.I assume Mr. O'Toole studies transportation issues in great depth, so I was especially happy that he sees self-driving cars being common in the future. I am no environmentalist, but I look forward to a day when self-driving electric cars will eliminate or reduce oil changes, excessive auto parts, convenience stores, hotels, and short airline flights.I bought the Kindle version and could barely put it down. Thanks, Mr. O'Toole, for leaving me tired during the day after staying up too late reading your book : )

It effectively destroys the arguments for subsidies to Amtrak a d building costly and unnecessary light rail systems like the foolhardy Metrolink in Saint Louis. The author clearly loves traveling by rail but sums it up neatly in the final paragraph of the book:“Although we might want great trains in our fantasy of what the world should be like, the reality is we don’t need trains. Most Americans don’t ride the trains we have, nor would they ride them even if they met some arbitrary definition of “great.” We love passenger trains, and we will remember them in museums and tourist lines. But if the government stays involved in transportation at all, it should be to prepare for the next revolution in transportation, not to try to reverse the previous ones.”

Seriously warn potential readers that dislike cheating intensely.**Contains spoilers** (I rarely write spoiler reviews but can't avoid in this instance)Sadly my foray into the world of all things KM Gollard has crashed and burned. I didn't enjoy Revue, hardly at all. Why? Because of Corinne - why the ever loving God are we reading about a woman who insta loves a cheating, immature, annoying kid - and I say kid because Josh has the mental age of about twelve on how he deals with things. Especially when she is written to be a woman wanting true love, roses and rainbows!Why the hell did Corinne forgive him when he went straight off the next day and cheated on her! Regardless of how she reacted to the boys finding out, she had every right to be disgusted and think it was Josh - because.... let's face it, Josh is a total womaniser (think man-wh….. ) and a bragger!!!! To then blame herself that it was her fault he went off and bedded another (kank - add an s at the start) is just plain ridiculous. No way he could have felt any of the feelings he pertained to feel about her while he was sticking his wick into anything that breathed!!! There were no redeeming qualities about him at all.Then we're supposed to feel sorry for him when she acts like a slug (swap g for t) herself and he can't handle it. Oh man, that's so lame it's bordering pathetic.Sometimes the prose had Corinne acting properly regarding a man that was constantly cheating on her, then she completely let me down, and herself, by being such a weak and stupid creature to taking him back. Then she's crying after she gets it on with someone else, bah, but oogles, sighs and her ovaries go all gaga over this other man's junk and body...and he’s one of the team!THIS IS NOT HOW LOVE IS CREATED people!I do like KM's writing style to some degree, though there was too much forced comedy and trying to do one liners that fell flat for my taste. I didn't like Corinne's friendship with Em, they both came across as heady teenagers who hadn't got a grip on being grown up. And that's reiterated by the way Cori handles Josh.I persevered all the way to the end and wished I really hadn't, sadly I'll remember this book for all the wrong reasons.This was me not liking the content of the Revue, there was nothing wrong at all with KM's writing, it's me not handling the content well at all and the lack of being forewarned so I could avoid like the plague, whereas I was plagued by the content.Here's the crux, because of the cheating, this is a book you just know the H/h will not stay together forever, she'll pee him off and he'll run off and do another bimbo and she'll take him back and it'll be rinse and repeat until one of them grows up. And let's face it, romance readers want the image or idea of the HEA, and my crystal ball says it's not gonna happen with Josh and Cori, they've never respected each other enough, the sudden turnaround of giving up randoms just didn’t sit well at the end.

I am so bummed I didn't love this more. I am a HUGE KELLY Golland fan and although I don't love this story I still am. The woman is an amazing writer and can write funny as hell lol moments like no one's business. She can also write a steamy sex scene that fogs up a bathroom mirror without the shower.To be honest I didn't think I would love this after reading the blurb. Sexy revue dancer as the leading man??? Maybe as a hot side character but not as the main man we are supposed to fall in love with. I hated Josh! There were zero redeeming qualities about this guy. The guy was a straight up manwhore in every sense of the word. He unashamedly screwed every woman insight and this didn't stop when he met our leading lady Cori.Although I didn't hate Corrine I didn't find much to love about her either. It's hard to respect a woman who despite telling us how much she believes in true love continues to go back to the guy who is an ass to her 90% of the time. She pretty much ruins any tolerance I had left for her when she screws her man's friend and fellow dancer Brad out of revenge. Although I got to say Brad was one upside to this book and I was actually pulling for Brad and Cori to get together.The best part of the book was the Epilogue. Why...because it was told from Josh's POV. Finally we get to the end and I start to like Josh? Damn! Just wish this was dual POV so we could get in his head to see what he was thinking and why.I loved that Ms Golland clearly did something outside her norm but this just wasn't for me. Time to go back and re-read Temptation Series (best series EVER!) So I can remember a real sexy male stripper, Bryce.

This will be my second time posting this review, because apparently certain words are not allowed (even if those words have some letters replaced with asterisks so it's not the actual word).I read some of the 5-star reviews and some of the 1-star reviews and agree with certain points of both. Minor spoiler: I found the hero to be self-absorbed, and I don't care how smokin' hot he is, a man who gets caught having sex with one girl, finishes while the other woman is watching, and asks the girl who caught them if she wants to be the next female dog to have sex with him (using a four-letter word to describe the act) as he's putting away his johnson, is a guy no sane woman would EVER give the time of day to. That opening scene was enough for me not to care to finish the book, but I trudged on. I found some of the dialogue funny, but I didn't get the hero/heroine. He was a narcissistic ass and she was supposedly an intelligent, independent woman. I didn't like it, I didn't hate it, it just left me feeling kind of meh. I don't know how things go in Australia, but in America his behavior would be not only immoral but almost illegal, bordering on sexual harassment. This is the first book I've read by this author, but it wouldn't make me want to read any more of her work. I didn't like the hero, didn't understand the heroine, and even with some good dialogue and sexy scenes, it just wasn't enough.
