I admit this is a book I have read multiple times. It is a book I have a strong affinity for. I come back to it every few years. Why? Norbert's views of the future were prescient of our times. He does a fine job of hi-lighting the dangers of a "machine à gouverner" and the implications thereof. In essence he describes what can happen if you were able to apply probabilistic control to humans and tie this back to feedback systems.The book is wide ranging in its scope of thought and for that reason and more highly recommended.

This was not an easy read for me. Google helped out, expanding my knowledge on many of the terms, ideas & history. I am a simple lay person. This book gave me many of the answers I've been looking for my whole life. This is one of the best and most important books I've ever read. It's my Santa substitute!
Brilliant reflections on the interaction between society, and all the technology based on information theory that was only beginning to emerge at that time. The accuracy of the predictions about the future is impressing, given that they are more than 50 years old. My impression is that this comes from actually having a strong empathy and understanding with people, something that is lacking in many of the people that would usually talk about this topic nowadays.
This is the finest book I have ever read. It's inspiring and the authors conclusions are arrived at through careful analysis and ample premise. Wiener is a genius nevertheless he explains everything in such a fluid and not too technical manor. If I were stuck in limbo for eternity and I could take only one book with me this would be the book for me.
This book has been a favorite of mine since college. I gave it to my son who has just finished an MBA. Modern management techniques are detestable! This book shows a humanistic based management style much more in keeping with good management/ worker relations and increased productivity than the current reign of terror system pushed in companies.
Powerful book written by a brilliant author. Written in the forties, it provides a background of what we as a civilization should be alerted to for the future..which future we already have in place.
